On Tuesday 7th of December, 2006, ASCEND made a courtesy call to the highly esteemed and celebrated Professor Dora Akunyili, Director General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). In his speech, Ascend President, Mr Cosam I.B.Okoli. Commended her for the revolution she is leading against fake, sub-standard and adulterated food and drugs in the country. and the exemplary leadership qualities with which she has been pursuing her primary assignment at NAFDAC as well as the local and international accolades she had garnered as a result. A delegation of ASCEND also made an advocacy visit to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters, Abuja ACEND President, Mr. Okoli sort to know the plan INEC had to carry along person with disabilities in the then voter’s registration exercise and the general Elections. He noted that ASCEND has observed that some registration centers and polling booths were not accessible to person with disabilities in past elections. He appealed to INEC to ensure that persons with disabilities are not disenfranchised in all future election. |

ASCEND visited the Nigerian Television Authority (N.T.A) Headquarters, Abuja. The leader of ASCEND delegation, Mr. Cosmas I.B. OKoli explained that ASCEND was committed to promoting the full participation of Nigerians with disabilities in soci-political activities of the society. ASCEND member visited the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) at their office on 2nd may, 2007. The president of ASCEND commended the Authority for their development initiative and laudable project. He noted that the new BRT-Lite Scheme, a Bus road way Based Repaid Transport System, which is presently under construction in the city , must be made accessible to person with disabilities ,and that the buses and bus/stop facilities must have necessary accessibility aid like ramps, guides information |

on Braille and readable signal indicator for accessibility of passengers with disabilities. In his response , Engr. Gbenge Dairo the representative of advocacy intervention of ASCEND, and noted that LAMATA and ASEND need to be in communication and be proactive so as to ensure continuous improvement in the system. |

In May 2007, the National Planning Commission (NPC) organized some consultative fora to enhance contribution of stakeholder all over the country in the National Economic Empowerment Development Strategy (NEEDS) second document was reviewed and input to incorporate disability issues was made. Which was immediately sent to the National Planning Commission
